Kraftwerk Freudenau: An exciting learning place for children and families to discover the energy of the Danube ⚡🌊. The run-of-river hydroelectric power plant has been generating clean electricity since 1998 and supplies around 280,000 Viennese households – an impressive example of modern hydropower.
Year-round tours are offered, including special family tours. The tours last about 90 minutes and begin at the information center with film, exhibits, and a large model. Afterwards, you go into the power plant hall and down to 30 meters depth – a dark, loud and partly wet area that families can experience up close. Safety helmets are provided; high heels, baby strollers and companion animals are not allowed. People with implanted medical devices are not allowed to participate for safety reasons. 🎧🔦 Recommended age groups: 6–10, 10–12 and from 12 years. 👪
