Since 1997, puppet theater for children from the age of 3 has been performed in the LILARUM on Göllnergasse in Vienna. The figure theater founded by Traude Kossatz has since developed into the largest children's theater in Vienna. The idiosyncratic theater style remains internationally unique: Five “invisible” players move the puppets, who speak with the voices of well-known actors, musicians and cabaret artists, to music composed exclusively for the pieces!
By the way: If you want to know all the figure games in the LILARUM, you have to start early! The theater has more than 30 in-house productions for children from the age of 3 or 4 in its repertoire and the number is growing every year. Around the many dolls – all of them unique! - regularly on stage, almost 400 performances are played every year, which are attended by more than 40,000 people.
When developing the pieces, special emphasis is placed on the selection of content. In Austria's largest puppet stage, you will look in vain for a pedagogical pointing finger, because here the aim is to entertain children in a sophisticated and high-quality way, instead of just teaching them! "Of course, that doesn't mean that the children in the LILARUM can't take anything with them for life!" emphasizes Traude Kossatz, the artistic director. “On the contrary, our puppet games contain a lot of relevant and instructive content for a child's life. We also offer specially compiled accompanying theater material that enables adults to reflect on the content of the play together with the children! When you visit a performance, however, one thing is clearly in the foreground: the joy of the theatre!"
It is not without reason that the LILARUM is often referred to as the place where children are taught one thing above all: the ability to experience art!
